Binance renews pledge to create and fund Web3 education for women

Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world by trading volume, is reiterating its commitment to increasing the number of women who are both engaged and employed in the Web3 industry in light of International Women’s Day.

So far, Binance has contributed more than $2 million to help women in more than 10 countries across the globe via education and mentoring programs that are specifically geared toward women, and it intends to broaden the scope of these efforts in the next year, according to information shared with Finbold by the platform on March 6.

In 2022, the Binance Charity gave a donation of $2 million to finance over 36,000 Web3 scholarships specifically designated for women. In 2023, the Binance Charity revealed it would continue to sponsor courses, initiatives, and scholarships, particularly emphasizing women and underrepresented groups.

Binance puts an increased focus on women-focused education

With just 37% of crypto owners being female, education is essential to enable more women to enter the sector. Women from Germany, Nigeria, Kenya, Brazil, France, South Africa, and Ukraine were the recipients of the 2022 scholarships that would allow them to study blockchain and cryptocurrency-related courses at universities, institutions, and charitable organizations.

In recognition of International Women’s Day, Binance Charity will additionally give an extra gift to Georgia’s Innovation & Technology Agency (GITA) in the amount of $100,000 to help fund Web3 education and training for females. The instructional material included in GITA Web3 courses will be provided by Binance Academy.

Women account for less than 5% of crypto-founded firms, and Binance is one of the few crypto enterprises in the world to have been co-founded by a woman, He Yi, who co-founded the company in 2017. As of 2022, there were around 292 firms in the cryptocurrency industry created by women out of more than 10,000 companies.

Binance co-founder and chief marketing officer He Yi stated:

“As one of the few female leaders in the industry, I believe that we have a mission, through Binance Charity and Binance Academy, to help more women understand web3 and blockchain technology — our education and internship programs aim to empower young women with knowledge and skills ready for industry disruption.”

Overall, the female mentoring programs, talent workshops, training seminars, and talks are just some of the other ways the firm will help women in the future in the Web3 sector.
